About GirlsGerms
Current media offerings tend to leave the impression that women don’t make much news in the world. GirlsGerms hopes to balance things out a little.
My aim is to provide a central place to find news about Australian women and any other important news and information relevant to women. You won’t find celebrity gossip, beauty tips, recipes, house & garden makeovers, etc. They’re well catered for in the plethora of print and online magazines already out there. Instead, GirlsGerms will cover news across a range of interest areas and will focus predominantly on Australian information – although international material will be included where it’s relevant to us girls in Oz.
There are eight different news sections for you to browse – arts-media, business, community, education, government, nature, science-tech, and sport (check out the different categories across the top menu bar). You can also look for specific topics in the interest area tag cloud on each page – and if you want to discover some of the women who have led the way in Australian life, check out WOMENfirst. Some of these milestones have taken a while to reach – and keep in mind these were often occupations and achievements already commonplace for men.
GirlsGerms isn’t an feminist or anti-male publication. Women and men are equally welcome to visit. So please, enjoy reading some real news about women in Australia – and if you have some news you think others may be interested in, please send a short email to me using the contact link at the bottom of the page.
Cheers,
GGeditor

GirlsGerms editor is freelance writer and editor Sharon Harrison. She has nearly 20 years’ experience in communications, small-scale publishing and marketing and holds a masters degree in professional communication. Her major focus has always been on written communications, beginning in the early nineties as editor of a couple of community newsletters and continuing in corporate and government communications and a few industry magazines using print and electronic/online media. She’s also been involved in desktop publishing from its early days – starting out with a beefed-up Commodore Amiga computer, a software package called PageStream and a hand-held scanner for digitising graphics… and no internet.
